Belonging to one of the close knit Syrian Christian families of Kanjirapally, Mr. Kurien has opened the doors of his home to people from world over to savour the simple joys of living with a traditional Kerala Syrian Christian family. To understand the relevance of this community one has to understand the place Kanjirapally. Located in Central Kerala, in the heart of Kottayam district the land of letters and latex, Kanjirapally is famous for its rubber plantations. Inhabited by a peaceful intimately bound community, which consists mainly of traditional Syrian Christian families, almost all of them are related to each other, directly or through marriage.

The meals are an experince on their own in the Elamthottam Bungalow,where the lady of the house, Tessy personally makes them for the guests. The cuisine is a typical Syrian Christian one, with special emphasis on Central Kerala palette which has been passed down from generations. From mildly spiced Fish Moily to the fiery Duck Roast, accompanied by a variety of vegetearian and other interesting non-vegetarian fare. Toddy, the local liquor made from coconut palms are also available on request.
Plantation visits:
Mr. Kurien take the guest to the rubber plantation where one can see how the rubber tree is tapped for the milk and how the milk is further procured for commercial purposes in the form of sheets. A visit to the pineapple plantations and plantations of various fruit trees and spices is part of this visit.
A visit to the monastry run by the order of the Benedictines,where one can see the various architectural styles unique to the region. School for the blind run by the monks and the artifacts made by the inmates are on display and sale.
A picnic trip to Vagamon mountains, to visit the tea gardens, followed by lunch at the homes of close of kin of Mr.Kurien, near Teekoy on the foothills of the mount Vagamon. The main attraction being a splendid waterfalls.
There is also the option of just taking your meals and participating in the activites offered by the host enroute To Thekkady from Kumarakom if you want to save day and not stay in the property.
Located 5kms from Kanjirapally Town & 100kms from Cochin, the drive from the main Kanjirapally - Erattupetta road up to the bungalow, winds first through a paddy field, and then gradually climbs via a mud road on to the front compound of the house.
Located in Kottayam district 40kms from Kottayam, this property is also enroute the famous Kumarakom-Kottayam-Thekkady tour route.

Once a trading town with traditional style houses built by the early Christian pepper merchants, Kottayam is also nerve center of the newspaper industry.
The first printing press in Kerala was in Kottayam built from Benjamin Bailey. Kottayam is also home to largest circulating newspaper in India the Malayala Manorama.
Alleppey(Alapuzha) situated approximately 90kms from the Bungalow, Alleppey is connected to the small town of Kanjirapally by road.. It is called the Venice of the East due to the extensive canal network here. Every year the famous snake boat race is held here.
