Chackochan and Salimma of Nelupura home stay is your quintessential hosts. Belonging to a Syrian Christian community based at Moncompu in Allapuzha district for five generations now. Being a prominent family of the place, the local Catholic Church was built by their grandparents in the year1958. Though ancestors were basically farmers mostly cultivating paddy, coconuts, rubber etc, Chackochen continues to grow these, but has chosen to be a professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences of the Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. His wife Salimma is a teacher in chemistry at the Higher Secondary level in Pulincunnoo, near to the house. They have three children Anjaly Raisa, Amitha Eliza and Arun Joseph. All are students at the school level.
Your sojourn with them will be an experience of a typical Kerala Syrian Christian family, at its authentic best. Nelpura means granary where paddy is stored and grains for the next season are preserved. The Nelpura Heritage Home stay is a renovated structure adjoining the ancestral house of Mr. Chacko and family. The building showcases the fine features of traditional Kerala architecture and woodcarving. Dating back around 150 years, It is an ideal long-stay retreat for writers and artists. It also makes for unforgettable holidaying in communion with the rustic world.

Experience
It is a tranquil Paradise. Paddy fields and coconut plantations surround this inviting place. The accommodation is a traditional Kerala architecture with beautiful wooden interior and could only be reached with a small boat, as it is located in the Backwaters. . There is a small, friendly village to walk or cycle round and a nearby temple whose sounds enchanted the evenings. Peace, calm and a real taste of Kerala life and culture. Tourists passing by Alappuzha will be picked up in country boats to the home stay for lunch with the family. The guests can relax, refresh and avail the facilities of the home stay for three hours. Location and Access
Known in the past as the 'Rice Bowl of Kerala,' Kuttanad has now gained international reputation as a backwater tourist center attracting thousands of tourists every year. Dominated mostly by an agrarian population, Kuttanad is noted for its farming below sea level. This region is also frequented by a variety of migrating birds. Moncompu, the village in Kuttanadu where the Home stay is located is hardly 12 kms Allapuzha town away from the town, and is accessible by water as well as road transport.
By Road
From the Cochin International Airport it is around 112 Km delightful ride by road to Nelupura Homestay. From the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport it is a 187 Km (approximately 3.30 hours ride by road) to the home.
By Rail
From Cochin, take a southbound train via the Alappuzha route (enjoy picturesque scenery as the route flanks the backwaters and the sea on its way). Alight at Alappuzha Station. Nelpura Heritage Home stay is 12 kms from town and is accessible by both water as well as road transport. On prior appointment tourists will be picked up from either the Railway Station or Bus Station in Alappuzha.
