As the boatman punts his way along the tree lined network of canals that crisscross the vast, endless rice fields of Pulincunnoo, the hundred year old "Vacha Kannotra" comes into view. Inherited by architect couple, Alex & Tsarina Vacha, it was restored in 2007 and comprises three structures: the main house, an outhouse and a kitchen block. Wooden walls and ceilings enclose a vast living room, tastefully appointed with antique teak furniture and brass artifacts. A small sky lit courtyard is flanked by the dining area, prayer space and master bedroom, peppered with antique bric-a-brac and fascinating detailing. A spiral staircase winds up to a cozy bedroom above the outhouse, nestled among the palm fronds. At the culmination of a quiet stroll across the backyard, past little canals, a pond and a dense canopy of trees, at the far end of the property is a sparkling, green carpet of endless paddy fields, stretching as far as the eye can see!
